THE NARRATIVE ARK:
Mentoring
It can be incredibly tough to make your way as a writer, and yet it doesn't have to be. Mentoring can give you support, encouragement and the insights you need as you build confidence and resilience, and work steadily towards becoming a published author.
What is The Narrative Ark?
A one-on-one, intensive, personally tailored mentoring experience with a minimum of three sessions and up to six sessions designed to invigorate you and your writing
In-text and summary feedback on your work-in-progress to keep you motivated as you create and develop your full-length project
Fast-tracked personal progress in a competitive, and at times impersonal, industry
The tools and strategies to rethink your approach to success and creativity, and achieve both in a supportive, encouraging space
How Does it Work?
One-on-one monthly sessions, conducted online or face-to-face (location dependent)
Submission of stories or chapters of up to 5,000 words each month for discussion and exploration at each monthly meeting
Genres: novels, short stories, memoir
$500 per month, with a three-month minimum commitment
Not Sure if Mentoring is Right for You?
Consider booking a Narrative Spark first. The narrative spark is a single one-hour session ($600) to explore your project, identify where you're at, and decide together whether The Narrative Ark is the right next step. (If you proceed, $150 is credited against your first month fee for ongoing mentoring.)
While mentoring with me, you will learn:
The essential components of compelling, sensorially immersive writing
Ways to deepen your narrative and create believable, motivated protagonists
How to ascertain what is and what’s not working in your manuscript and why
Greater accountability and resilience as you regularly meet your productivity goals and move closer to your writing dreams
Targeted techniques to help your work get noticed, published and appreciated
I can help you reach the next level in your writing career
With over twenty-five years' experience writing, studying writing, teaching writing, mentoring writers and assessing their manuscripts, I've become something of a story mechanic.
I pull stories apart to discover what's 'rattling', make observations, ask questions, and give writers tips on how to put their stories back together, only without the aspects that had originally stopped them reaching their destination. My insights have helped countless writers become published authors, and they can work for you too.
I mentor writers because I lacked that support in the earliest stages of my career. At that point, I promised myself I would help writers gain confidence, discipline and success if I were ever in a position to do so.
To reach that level, we need to do the work. Mentoring makes that work something to look forward to. We do the work together, each month, on the page, as we strengthen your knowledge of the writing craft and help you use your intuition to develop your own path to success.

I learnt a lot with Laurie. As we moved from one draft to the next together, my novel opened in front of me and I saw how to arrange plot through character arc, what to trim, and importantly, which parts of my book were strong enough to build upon.
I would highly recommend Laurie's guidance!
